Preparation on tiles

Before applying your decorative concrete, you may need to repair the tiled surface or adjust its flatness.

For Damaged Tiled Surfaces

If your tiles are damaged, perform a self-leveling process to even out the floor. Use Harmony Prim Epoxy Adhesion Primer to create a waterproof barrier on humid surfaces.

Applying Concrete on Tiled Surfaces

To apply béton ciré on tiles, use Harmony Cement Adhesive to fill the tile joints and level the surface. This step is crucial to prevent the tile pattern from showing through the final Harmony Béton cirélayer.

Preparing Tiled Surfaces Before Applying Decorative Concrete

Renovating an old house or commercial space? Want to modernize your tiled floors or walls with decorative concrete? It’s essential to ensure that the tiled surface is flat and in good condition before proceeding. Don’t worry! With our preparation range for tiled surfaces, you can save time and easily fill the joints of your old tiles for a flawless finish.

Why Use a Tile Adhesion Primer and Leveling Compound?

A tile adhesion primer is applied before the leveling compound or decorative concrete. Its primary role is to ensure proper bonding between the existing tiles and the new decorative layer.

Preparation involves:

  • Cleaning the tiles to ensure they are sound and grease-free.
  • Applying the primer to fill tile joints, cracks, and damaged areas, followed by the leveling compound to achieve a smooth, flat surface.

Steps to Apply Tile Adhesion Primer

Step 1: Surface Preparation

  • Assess the flatness and condition of your tiles to identify any damage or irregularities.
  • Clean the tiles thoroughly, ensuring the surface is sound, dry, clean, and dust-free.
  • Apply the universal adhesion primer (Harmony Universal Prim Granite) evenly over the entire surface using a specialized roller. This will regulate the surface and improve the bond for the leveling compound.
  • For damp areas (e.g., bathrooms, kitchens), use Harmony Prim Epoxy to waterproof the surface and prepare it for exposure to moisture.
  • Begin applying the primer at the back of the room, working your way toward the exit.
  • Allow the primer to dry completely before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Applying Cement Adhesive

  • Once the primer is dry, proceed with the application of the leveling compound.
  • Use Harmony Cement Adhesive to fill the tile joints across the surface. Spread the compound evenly using a Flemish trowel and a finishing trowel to ensure a flat surface.

Which Adhesion Primer Should You Use for Tiles?

At Harmony Béton, we offer primers tailored to specific needs:

  • Universal Prim Granite: Suitable for all surfaces (porous or non-porous).
  • Harmony Prim Epoxy: Ideal for humid areas, ensuring a waterproof barrier.
  • Harmony Cement Adhesive: Excellent for smoothing old tiles and creating a uniform surface.

With these products and the correct application techniques, you’ll achieve a perfectly prepared surface ready for decorative concrete.
